Stepping Out in Faith: The Power of Saying Yes!

Damon Willis and five other men recently returned from a journey to North Africa—a team that stepped out in faith to serve alongside one of our long-term missionaries.

Was it impactful? Was it worth stepping beyond the familiar and into the unknown? Did God show up in ways they couldn’t have anticipated?

Absolutely. Damon put it this way:

“I can honestly say that leaning in and obeying God's nudge for me to sign up for the men's North Africa journey was transformational. For years, I made excuses about why a global(x) journey was impossible—given my demanding work schedule and our busy life at home raising three boys alongside my wife.

“For this particular journey, I heard God's voice whisper to me that this was the time and the trip for me to lean in and leap. And I'm so glad I did! The men I served alongside are nothing short of amazing. And honestly, as a black man who didn't grow up serving on such trips, it was a big jump outside my comfort zone—I headed half way across the world with a group of strangers who look nothing like me and seemingly had nothing in common with me other than being Christian. Boy was I wrong!

“As we traversed together across miles and miles of North African countryside and bustling cities, we got to see God's work up close with the amazing work that our long-term missionary and his team are doing on the ground. But also, God was working on us as a group and bringing us closer together in one shared mission, spreading the good Word. I can honestly say I now have five new brothers who I feel I've known for decades, and I have global(x) to thank for that. As a result, my faith has been deepened, and I'm more fired up than ever to continue the momentum of spreading the good Word to all I encounter!” 

Damon’s story is a powerful reminder that when we say yes to God—even when it feels uncomfortable or uncertain—he meets us there in ways we never expected. What began as a leap of faith turned into a life-changing experience, deep friendships, and a renewed passion to carry the gospel forward.
