Faith, Hope, and Superheroes!
When you volunteer to serve others with open hands and a willing heart, powerful things can happen. For Nikki Murphy and her family, who served at the beach with Lighthouse Family Retreat this spring, the simple act of saying yes led to unforgettable moments, meaningful connections, and a deeper understanding of what it means to walk alongside others. In Nikki’s own words, she shares how their journey stretched their faith, changed their perspective, and left a lasting impact on their hearts.
“This was a wonderful week for our family—one of our best ever! We loved helping our retreat family, getting to know them, and walking beside them. I especially enjoyed playing every day with our retreat family girls. I had the joy of spending time with them in my Flip Flop group, along with another sweet boy, Lucas, who is bravely fighting leukemia.
“Each day, as we played superheroes, Lucas would look up at me and say, ‘Superheroes never give up!’ and off we would run as Avengers to save people. Those moments—and that message—will stay with me forever.
“We came to serve but ended up receiving so much more. We left with full hearts, deeper faith, and immense gratitude for the families we met, the memories we made, and the reminder that hope shines brightest in community. Our daughters are already asking when we can serve again!”
The Murphy family’s story is a beautiful reminder that serving others often transforms us in ways we never expect. Through simple acts of kindness, shared laughter, and powerful moments of connection, they discovered the true heart of service. And as their daughters eagerly look forward to the next opportunity, their journey stands as an invitation to all of us: step in with love and watch what unfolds.
